Digital Footprint

I left a large digital footprint in 2013 sending most of you:
  • Dozens of Picasa photo albums containing hundreds of uploaded photos;
  • A link to our Apple Photo Stream;
  • Several dozen "day-in-the-life" videos on You Tube;
  • Special event (mainly birthday) videos including DVDs;
  • The tribute for Karen's 60th birthday;
  • An intimate and personal video celebrating 40 years of marriage;
  • The Barber-Jolly family tree that was months in the making;
  • Ancestor's biographies (ongoing);
  • Many articles and links I found either informative or entertaining;
  • Newsy emails;
  • Large files and documents using sites such as We Transfer;
  • A variety of vignettes along the road to Donna's 50th birthday;
  • Links to hundreds of photos entrusted to me by family;
  • And a variety of other documents digitized, dramatized and distributed.
What I attempted is tangentially described in 2 Corinthians 6:11-12a;

"11 We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians, and opened wide our hearts to you. 12a We are not withholding our affection from you..."

I opened more of our life signaling a desire for you play a greater part.  But when you look at the frequency of mailings combined with the sheer volume of information, it was a little much.  A famous short story author was asked why he never wrote a novel.  He replied, "who has time to read a novel?"

Therefore, throughout 2014 I plan to bear in mind few have time to keep up with their inbox.  To help I'm giving you a "safe word".  When I get excessive, just reply with "moderation" in the subject line.   I'll eventually get the message.

Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show" was once being grilled about his priorities leading a politically oriented talk show.  He responded first he is a comedian.  But secondarily, he has a voice, an opinion about things, and wants to be heard.   I have too unique a sense of humor to claim any comedic ground.  However, I do like to connect over ideas.  I'm not remotely suggesting I have something valuable or interesting to say .  But I do like to share life.

Therefore,  I plan to jump-start this blog.  That way anyone interested can  go read what I'm up to in addition to subscribing to my You Tube channel.    This should help keep your inbox more pristine in 2014.

Happy New Year!

P.s.  Do NOT respond to this email with "moderation."

Keep it coming Dad - I love it all and have made a folder where I keep the documents, photos and e-mails you've sent too.
